SMALL BUSINESS LOVE // CABANA AND CANARY // TISH COX
Dallas Small Business Love // Cabana and Canary // TISH COX
Hi, everyone! I hope you all had a great Mother’s Day weekend! We had such a fun day on Sunday. I got to FaceTime with my daughter for a long time and then with my son, daughter in law, and grandkids. My youngest and his wife and her mom came over around 2:00, and we hung out, made a cake (flourless chocolate), drank wine, and had a delicious dinner. I loved being with family, and the same group has made a pact to do it every Sunday from now on. I didn’t get to see my mom, which was the only bummer. This Covid-19 SUCKS!
Small Business Love: Dallas
Today, I wanted to highlight some small business love in Dallas (and online). Canary and Cabana are two stores in Dallas that are owned by Merry Voss. The stores may be small, but they pack a huge punch as far as fashion goes. Merry is like the “cool” girl from school. She’s the one every girl aspires to be. She has the most impeccable taste, and every time I see her, I’m like the lady watching Meg Ryan in the restaurant scene from When Harry Met Sally. Remember when she says, “I’ll have what she’s having?” Not only is she just plain cool, but she is also one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.
Cabana is the first store she opened with fun and casually chic pieces, and Canary is right down the street with the same casually chic pieces but more upscale with emerging designers. Think Barney’s (RIP) on a much smaller scale. Both stores are in small houses and have such a welcoming vibe. If Merry is there, she will treat you like an old friend and offer you her signature ice tea. I love her honesty too!
If something is not suitable for you, she will tell you.
Merry carries the most interesting designers but there is one, in particular, I want to highlight because she is a Dallas girl and I love her pieces. Tish Cox’s designs are absolutely stunning and very wearable. They are polished and structured and could be worn not only to an elegant black-tie affair but also to a backyard party. Tish has a mini boutique in the back of Cabana, and I promise I take all of my out of town friends in to see it (and Cabana and Canary). Every time my friends come back to visit, they want to go back. One of my good friends from Nashville ordered her mother of the bride dress from Tish. Her daughter, the bride, ordered her rehearsal dinner outfit.
I have ordered the same shirt in four different fabrics because I love it so much. The dress I am wearing in these photos is from Tish, and it happens to be on sale (might need it in this print too!). This top is my next purchase! If you see a style that you love but not the color or print, call and ask if it is available in others. Tish is also in partnership with the United Way, making masks.
For every mask sold, she is donating one.
We have an unfinished room over our garage and I think we are going to finish it and make another bedroom and bathroom. Right now it is a big storage room full of crap! We think that the guys can start working on it in a couple of weeks so that means I need to get moving on cleaning it out. I have artwork, furniture, and the children’s memorabilia in there. I am going to have to be very choosy about what I keep. We do not want to get a storage unit for stuff we are not using. I’m already sweating!
I hope you all have a great day! Thank you for reading!
