STARTING THE NEW YEAR CALMLY, WITH ESCAPE ARTISTS
Happy New Year Everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday season! As much as I hate it being over, there is something nice about getting back on a schedule and on a healthier diet. I don’t know about you, but I had a lot of sweets, and way too many glasses of red wine! I also thought eggnog in my coffee was a brilliant idea for the last two weeks. Yesterday started, the “back to reality” diet of eating healthy!
Do you all make resolutions? I don’t really make them anymore, because I end up feeling bad about myself for breaking every single one of them. Now, I just give myself some suggestions and hope I follow through with those. Some of the suggestions to my self, are to spend more time on my spiritual life, exercise, volunteer, and decompress when I need it. So far this year (4 full days now), I have accomplished two of the four! I was hoping to do some volunteering with a group here in Nashville, but I have decided that my heart really wants to help women going through breast cancer. I have been doing a lot of that on my own, through friends putting me in touch with their friends that have been diagnosed, but am ready to give more of myself, and will pursue that at a hospital in town. Exercise is another story!
How do you all decompress? I love getting a massage or reflexology, but lately I have been into coloring. Have you tried it? It is like having Xanax, without the chemical altering meds. I got this coloring book from a company called Escape Artists. Two very cute overstressed friends, got together and created a very chic adult coloring book. I am obsessed, and not the least bit embarrassed to carry it to Starbucks! If you haven’t colored since you were a kid, or had little one’s, you should really give it a try. It is the most calming activity! The girls at Escape Artists have a geometrics book available, and hopefully will have more to offer soon. You can order one here. I know there are a lot of adult coloring books on the market, but I like supporting small business and these girls that are trying to make a go of it!
I hope you all are getting back to normal after the holidays. Wishing everyone a really great 2016! Thank you very much for reading this blog!
