CAFTANS

This month’s CHIC AT EVERY AGE post is about Caftans. Caftans have always made me think of “Mrs. Roper” from Three’s Company (do you remember her?) She was always in a caftan or “housecoat”. I also remember photos of Elizabeth Taylor in caftans. So, was I excited about wearing one for this photo shoot? Honestly, no, but once I put one on, it was like wearing a pair of pajamas.

How does one wear a Caftan? It makes a great bathing suit cover-up for starters. They can be belted and worn with heels for an evening out, over leggings with a pair of sandals, or at home for a dramatic evening hostess look. There are so many beautiful caftans, from plain to beaded, and Calypso St. Barth always has a fantastic selection. As you can see above, Caftans are another appropriate piece for any age. I chose to wear mine as a beach cover-up, while Heather and Sam are wearing theirs as a dress. Cute 20 something Ashley is wearing hers as a hostess look. There are many places to look for Caftans…Anthropologie, Saks Fifth Avenue and always Calypso St. Barth. And…for plus sizes, Lane Bryant has some really cute ones too! So get your “Helen Roper” on and wear a Caftan!!!
