Interview With Erin Busbee of Busbee Style and a Revolve Giveaway

Good Morning, everyone!

Last month when we were in Telluride, I got to spend some time with one of my girl crushes, Erin Busbee of Busbee Style (you may remember Erin from this post). One of my favorite things about blogging is the friendships I have made through this crazy business. Having a group of women that understand what this business is like is crucial and having a tribe support each other is so important. I have known Erin for about three years now and have spent time with her in Dallas and New York, but this time was in her hometown.

Erin is one of the most gorgeous girls inside and out that I have ever met. I am such an excitable and well, all over the place kind of girl, so being with Erin is a treat. She is so calming and chill, and I enjoyed my day with her so much. I got to see Telluride from a local’s perspective and can see why she and her family chose to move there from Texas last year. Not only did I get to see “her” Telluride, but I got to meet her cute husband and their adorable two young children.

Erin is an “over 40” beauty and fashion blogger and more than that, a very successful youtube vlogger. She just recently surpassed 100,000 viewers! That is huge!!! That comes with a ton of work that she has been diligent in creating. I wanted you all to know her if you don’t already and if you do, just know her a little better. We asked each other some questions, and here they are…

How long were you in broadcasting and what exactly was your job?

I started my career in TV news right out of college in 1996. I was in the business for ten years and wore MANY hats. I started out as a one-man band, which means you shoot video, edit, and report. I was promoted to the morning anchor position in Watertown, NY. Shortly afterward, I got a job as a general assignment reporter in Rochester, NY. Also, I ended up feature reporting and anchoring in Rochester. I once showed viewers some professional wrestling moves live from the ring! Ha! (I would have loved to have seen that!) In New York, NY, I started over in many ways.

My first gig was at WNBC as an overnight newswriter. I worked my way up the ranks there to associate line producer and sweeps series and specials producer. I moved to WCBS after a couple of years as a full-time entertainment and fashion producer. I got to interview and meet many celebrities. Furthermore, I covered awards shows, red carpets, and all the glam events. It was really fun! By the end of my stay there, I was an on-air entertainment and traffic reporter. The irony of me giving anyway directions… I can’t even read a map! Also, I produced dozens of specials too! The Tony Awards were my favorite, but I did a lot of tech shows, even a car special! I loved creating a show from start to finish.

How did you meet your husband, Chris?

We met via, which is crazy since neither of us ever set out to do online dating. I was so tired of dating organically and meeting men in NYC that had major issues. And, I DO mean MAJOR. My dating experiences in many ways mirrored the show, “Sex in the City.” The stuff that happened to those ladies on the show happened to me! I could write a book. Anyway, I wanted to be able to screen people before meeting them. Chris was the first
person I met. He signed up to help his friend who had started a ‘dating headshots’ business.

Hahaha! I want to hear those dating stories! Had no idea you were on a dating app!

What has been the best part of blogging/youtube for you? The worst?

The best part is the community of women I’m building via YouTube. I think blogging is amazing too, but not quite as powerful as video.
The worst is… you never turn it off. I swear I work 10x harder now than I ever have before. If Instagram disappeared tomorrow; I would secretly be relieved and do a happy dance! (me too!).

Why did you start this crazy job?

I wanted to share my styling expertise with more women! Before starting my online business, I was only able to reach women one at a time. I also love having my own business. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit! I once had a media training business (while I worked in TV news). I prepared magazine editors and business owners
for their big TV segments! No wonder you are so good at what you do!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

Family first. Work second. My family is my heart and soul and no matter where this business
goes, they always come first.

What would you tell your younger self?

CTFD. Since I don’t curse, let’s say “Calm the Freak Down.” I was always SO worried about the future in every regard, career, family, etc. I would sit my younger self down and say… you need to chill. It’s so hard for me to imagine you getting freaked out and I am going to use that acronym but with the bad word!!!

What are the five essentials every woman needs in their closet?

Amazing jeans, a black blazer, a white tee, black shoes or booties, and one high quality, versatile handbag.

What are the five essential beauty products you swear by?

I think it changes all the time. At the moment, I really love 1) Lune & Aster Real Glow Primer, 2) L’Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation, 3) Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect Lipstick, 4) It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara, and 5) My amazing T3 hair dryer.

What’s your favorite food? Drink?

Pizza is my Achilles heel, along with Hot Tamales or anything sweet really. I love to drink tea and coffee! I don’t drink alcohol, I gave it up shortly after my son Gage was born… around 8+ years ago! I have the hot tamale weakness too!

What is the most important thing you can teach your son/ your daughter?

Gratitude. If I can teach these two tiny humans to appreciate what they have, understand the value and importance of being kind to others, and to follow their passions in life…then I have succeeded (in my mind) as a parent.
