DORM DECOR-THIS IS BRILLIANT!
I am so excited to introduce you to these two smart and talented women who took an idea and ran with it. Meet Kate Phillips and Alison Gorrie of Birmingham, Alabama. These two connected through their daughter’s friendship and their passion for creativity. They have come up with a brand called DORM DECOR. It is brilliant in my opinion, and I only wish they had thought of it when my kids were in college. Heck, I wished I had had access to it when I lived in a dorm!
The idea came from the need for extra storage space for Alison’s daughter when she was going off to college. Dorm rooms are tiny, and we all know there is little space for anything. Alison had a bed and desk cubby constructed for her daughter, then gave the plans to Kate, so she could have one built for her daughter. Kate’s son did the building, which gave her the idea to build several and sell them. The idea took off, and “Dorm Cubby” was born. Kate and Alison partnered together to form the company now known as DORM DECOR.
These two savvy women happen to be sweet friends of mine, and invited me tour their facility. I was absolutely blown away!!! If you live close to Birmingham, I suggest making a trip to their showroom, and if not, check out their website HERE. These two have made it possible to turn unattractive dorm rooms into beautiful and livable rooms!
The cubbies they offer, are custom shelves that can be placed over a desk or bed to add more space for books and personal items (they deliver to some universities). They also offer a “man cave” for guys! The upholstered headboards come in four different styles, with endless fabric choices. It is basically a one stop shop for the dorm room! Other items offered, are bedding and pillows (offered in so many beautiful fabrics), bath, seating, window treatments, lighting, rugs, and accessories, many of which can be monogrammed!
What I discovered, was that Dorm Decor isn’t just for the dorm. Anyone looking to decorate a bedroom, can find something here. Most of the items can be ordered for any size bed. I found pillows that I want monogrammed for a guest room, and the monogrammed ghost chairs would be so chic around a dining table.
I am so impressed with “middle-paged” women who challenge themselves to take an idea or dream and make it a reality. These two have certainly done it, and I am so proud and excited for them!!!
Thanks for stopping by!
