CHIC AT EVERY AGE// SLIP DRESS
Good Morning! Are you guys as messed up on the day as I am? I could swear today is Tuesday, and that I need about five more hours in the day. I thought once you became an empty nester and then grand parent, you had more time in life. I am busier than I have ever been! I am hoping it keeps me young!!! So here we are, Chic at Every Age, wearing this cute slip dress. I was a little hesitant slipping this baby on, but decided to take it way down to a very casual look.
I love the way Brooke (One Small Blonde, 20’s) and Sam (Style of Sam, 30’s) styled it with the short and long vests over it. I didn’t even think about that, but it would have totally worked for me. When I saw the dress, I immediately got intimidated. The length was above the knee and the front of the dress was a bit low, so I decided to put a white tee under it and become “Sporty Spice”! Heather ( So Heather, 40’s) got creative and turned the dress around to put the crisscross in the front. It looked amazing that way, and she looks uber sexy in it!
I really do like the way I am wearing it. Tee underneath, scarf and these great leopard print calf hair sneaks (I am on a leopard kick right now for some reason!). I just figured at my age, it needed something either under or over it. There is no reason at “our” age, we can’t wear something like this. We just have to get a bit creative! There is this great store in Nashville (also in Austin, New Orleans, Covington, and Hattiesburg), called UAL (United Apparel Liquidators). When I am in Nashville, I try to hit it every couple of weeks. You would not believe what I have found! The Isabel Marant sneakers I am wearing, were purchased there (think I might have paid $125). I just bought a Prabal Gurung dress valued at $2150 for $395! I have seen some amazing pieces over the course of the year I have been going. If you live or are traveling to any of these places, I highly recommend sticking your head in this store. It’s hit or miss, but when you hit it, it’s amazing!
That’s it for today! Hope you have a great day!!! xx

Cathy ~
I really love your blog, your style, and your sense of humor! I know you focus on fashion, but I’m curious how you handle being an empty nester. I have a son in college and another is a junior in high school. Struggling with being “empty”. Any tips? Many thanks! I’m so glad I discovered The Middlepage! XO

I absolutely love this slip dress. I would have liked to purchase it but it’s only available in size 2 and 4. Do any of you lovely ladies have a place to by something quite similar?
I think Heater Rocked the dress by turning it around!!

Hi Diana! So sorry I am so late getting to your comment! I love it too, and feel like you can do a lot with it. I found this one that I think is super cute with the lace at the bottom….http://rstyle.me/n/bzf7yau9d6. Also, this one from Theory…http://rstyle.me/n/bzf7wau9d6, and this one is my favorite…http://rstyle.me/n/bzf74eu9d6. I love how Heather turned it around too! Thank you for reading the post, and let me know if I can ever help with anything else! xx

Hi Lauren! Please forgive me for being so late in answering this comment. I’m so glad you found my blog too! I am so appreciative for my readers! It means so much that you take a little time in your day to read it! Oh Sister…I know what you are going through! Going through the empty nest syndrome was one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through. You have the most rewarding job in the world that you love so much, and then you get the “pink slip”. Uggghhhh! I loved being a mom and having the commotion of my children in the house. Not gonna lie, it’s hard, but…it does get easier! I sort of floundered around for the first couple of years, but then started this blog. This will be a time for you to do something that you have wanted to, but didn’t have the time. I would suggest taking a class of some sort, volunteering, traveling (you don’t have to get someone to keep the kids now!) or finding a new hobby.
A lot of my friends have taken up golf, bridge, or other card games. Many have started a business, or are volunteering. And, you know what? It’s okay to do nothing for a while. You have been working hard for a very long time. Maybe pampering yourself is the best thing for a year. You will figure it out, but I do think keeping busy is the best thing.
If I can ever help out, please let me know! Thank you so much for the comment. This makes writing my blog worth every second! xx
