LEATHER AND SUEDE

Hi, everyone! It’s taken me the entire week to come down after getting back from New York on Tuesday. I walked the Cancer Culture fashion show during NYFW with twenty badass women and men in barely anything! My outfit was a pink bra and matching underwear (both from Ana Ono), nude fishnets, and strips of black silk wrapped around me. Let me tell you, this group does not quietly raise awareness; they get in your face and make it a bit uncomfortable. I can’t tell you how nervous I was, but when I went for my fitting (haha), they told me that a woman named Leslie wore the same look two years ago, and I was the first to wear it again. Leslie passed away three weeks after walking the exact show two years ago. I put on my big girl pants (literally) and did it for the women and men I met and for Leslie.
As I said, it’s taken me a week to get back into life after that experience. My family was there to support me, and I got to meet THE most beautiful survivors. If you have followed me for a bit, you know that I am a survivor of Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Cancer Culture was raising money for Metastatic Breast Cancer, particularly Triple-Negative, because it is the hardest one to cure. I would estimate that 60% of the survivors there were metastatic, meaning Stage 4, and it’s in other places besides their breasts. These women and men were truly some of the most joyful and beautiful souls, and I cannot get them out of my head or my prayers.
I’ll be honest with you, I have had a hard time getting any “work” stuff done the past week. After spending 24 hours with these women and men, I’ve found myself looking at things a little differently. They are living with cancer every single day, carrying a worry that I’m incredibly grateful to no longer carry. And yet, what I can’t stop thinking about is how much positivity, strength, and joy they have. I’m still processing it all. I don’t think I’ll ever forget these people or the perspective they gave me. Thank you for hearing me out.
Okay, let’s chat about leather or suede. I know it’s still very hot in a lot of places, but that is not stopping me from ordering fall pieces, and of course, leather and suede are on the “it” list. I’ve always loved leather jackets and jeans, but this fall, I’m gravitating more toward suede. Suede jackets, shoes, handbags, and maybe a pair of suede jeans are on my list of pieces I want to add. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with either, but suede feels a little more exciting to me this year.
I like both of the jackets I am wearing. One in leather and the other in suede. I love the double-breasted button style in black faux leather. All you need is a white or black tank underneath, and you can wear it basically as a shirt. It’s very lightweight, and you cannot beat the price! I paired it with a white tee, black denim, a black bag (similar), and leopard-print heels (similar).
The suede jacket is super cool. It’s a great transitional piece, and the gold buttons dress it up. I think you can wear this jacket with a million things, and it’s very comfortable. I paired it with a yellow tee, dark denim jeans, a suede belt (similar), and, of course, my favorite leopard heels. What do you like better this fall? Leather or suede?

I went to a fun luncheon this past week for Abbey Glass. She is known for designing timeless and elegant pieces that move from everyday moments to life’s most meaningful occasions. I chose this adorable zebra print jacket to wear. It has matching pants, but the 0 ran big, and I didn’t have time to get them tailored. I do like the jacket with solid black pants. Check out all of Abbey’s things HERE.

I have never heard so many women complaining about hair loss, and I am one of them. It’s such a hot topic right now, and I am a little concerned about my struggle with it. I know hair thinning happens for a lot of different reasons, but it sucks! I’m thinning at the very front, and my part doesn’t want to behave at all. I feel like I have 50% of the hair I used to when I wash it. I can’t help but think something in our environment is causing it to happen more. I have never heard so many people (even younger ones) say that their hair has thinned. I am babying mine and not using much heat (except my hair dryer on low). I don’t like the way my hair looks right now, but I am trying to take care of it. I use a red-light hat every day and take a hair vitamin. I’ve also been using this serum for a few weeks. I haven’t noticed any improvement with the serum, but they say it usually takes six weeks. Is anyone else experiencing this? What have you done, and has it worked?
This week is one of those weeks that I have been dreading. I have a gynecologist appointment today for my yearly, and my husband and I have back-to-back colonoscopies this week. His is on Wednesday, and mine is on Thursday. I’ve had them before, but the prep is no fun, but you do get a flat stomach for a couple of hours after! Wish us luck!
Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful week!
Stay well and Be safe! xx
P.S. If you are in the Dallas area on October 2, please come to this event to raise money for Triple Negative Breast Cancer!

Cathy: Congrats on your NYC show, brave lady! I want to tell you about a product that my plastic surgeon’s office recommended. They don’t sell the product, but one of the nurses showed me the before and after – she’s in her 30’s and the photo of the before showed hair loss and thinning along her crown. Now it is back to where it was- full and no bald spot. It’s called https://platedskinscience.com/products/hair-serum. They also make skin products. My husband has been using it and is happy with results also. It’s pricey, but worth it, IMO. Good luck!
