THE ONLY JEANS YOU’LL WANT IN YOUR CLOSET THIS FALL
If there’s one thing that never goes out of style, it’s denim. But just like hemlines, denim trends shift every season, and fall 2025 is bringing us some seriously good ones. Whether you’re running errands, meeting friends for dinner, or jetting off for a fall weekend, there’s a pair of jeans that will make you feel current, confident, and chic.
Here’s what’s trending now — and how to make it work at 50 and beyond.
LOW-RISE BAGGY– Yes, you read that right — the Y2K low-rise is back, but don’t panic! Today’s version is slouchy in all the right places, designed to sit lower on the hips without resembling Brittany Spears! Think of it as effortless cool, not teenage rebellion. Pair them with a slim-fit turtleneck or cropped cardigan to balance the volume. For women 50+, adding a belt and a structured jacket keeps the look polished instead of sloppy.
WIDE-LEG– Wide-leg jeans deliver instant polish with minimal effort. Tailored yet relaxed, these jeans elongate the leg and bring an elegant drape that feels more “trouser chic” than casual. They look fabulous with tucked-in blouses, blazers, and even heels (yes, they cover most of the shoe, but that’s the point — long, lean lines!). Bonus: they’re incredibly comfortable.
STRAIGHT or CIGARETTE– If you’re not ready to embrace the extremes, the straight-leg — or its slimmer cousin, the cigarette jean remains a timeless choice. It’s the pair you’ll reach for when you need something foolproof. This silhouette works with everything from loafers and flats to ankle boots. Pro tip: opt for a slightly cropped version to show a hint of ankle or to accentuate your favorite shoes. I’ve always kept a pair in dark blue and black to wear with knee-high boots. Nothing else works for tucking in.
DARK DENIM– Light washes may rule summer, but Fall is all about depth. Dark indigo and inky black denim give jeans a dressed-up edge. You can wear them with a silky blouse and heels for dinner or with a cozy sweater and boots for a weekend outing. Dark denim is also the most slimming wash, which makes it an instant favorite for many of us.
This season’s denim is proof that jeans can be both comfortable and chic at any age. Whether you opt for bold, wide-leg pants, stick to classic straight cuts, or experiment with dark washes, the key is balance. Pair oversized fits with sleek tops, and lean into tailoring to make the trend feel modern.
Fall 2025 is giving us denim options for every mood — polished, playful, and practical. And isn’t that exactly what we want from fashion at this stage of life?
My look- I’m wearing The Borrowed jeans from Frame. This is a mid-rise silhouette that hugs the hip and finishes at the ankle. I like them cuffed, but I’ve also worn them straight. These are definitely straight jeans. I’m wearing a white tee with this black “travel” blazer (from M.M. LaFleur), which I am obsessed with! This blazer was named “Best Wrinkle-Free Blazer” by Oprah Daily! It’s lightweight, comfortable, and available in a variety of colors. Now I want the Colby Travel Pant to wear with it! Also, these super chic ballet flats from A. Soliani are THE best ballet flats I’ve ever worn. Okay, I’m not a huge fan of ballet flats, but these are very comfortable, and I like the way the toe is shaped. I have already worn them several times since I got them. They come in lots of colors and sell out quickly (because they are that good!).

Wearing a wider-leg style here. Frame is my go-to for this style of denim. These are the Le Slim Palazzo Modern Pocket, which are also available in a dark rinse and a light green. I have this style in several other washes without the Modern Pocket. They are so flattering! I paired them with a lace polo (love the poplin trim collar) and a Christian Dior sandal. I will be wearing white jeans through the end of September.

I love these Madewell Low-Slung Baggy Jeans (30% off with code: LONGWEEKEND)! These are just low enough for me at my age to feel super cool. I promise you will not feel like a ’90s popstar! Since Madewell is having a sale, this is another pair that I absolutely love, the Darted Barrel-Leg. These are not too barrel-like or “cartoonish”. I have them in two colors and want the darker wash. I get stopped and asked about them every time I wear them. I paired these jeans with a white tee, an army green jacket, a suede bag, and a brown belt, also from Madewell. Madewell has THE best belts right now! My leopard print kitten heels are from last year.

I am headed to Ojai Valley this morning and taking my oldest granddaughter with me. This is our first trip together (just the two of us). We are going to visit my daughter and family for the weekend.
