The Rich Red Trend That’s Carrying Summer Straight Into Fall

If you’re already dreaming about fall fashion—but you’re still melting in 100-degree weather—you don’t have to choose. Rich berry tones and tangy reds are one of the biggest color trends of the season, and they’re easy to wear right now in breezy dresses and matching sets.

I love a color trend that doesn’t require a complete wardrobe overhaul. These shades feel sophisticated, timeless, and surprisingly versatile. Whether you prefer a bold monochromatic look or just want to add a pop of color through accessories, there’s a shade of red for everyone. With our Texas temperatures (and the country’s) refusing to cooperate, I’ve been reaching for easy dresses that keep me cool without sacrificing style. These two looks prove you don’t have to wait for cooler weather to embrace one of fall’s biggest color stories.

Look One: The Berry Dress That Does All the Talking

This sleeveless berry -colored dress immediately caught my eye because of its rich color and elegant silhouette (very Audrey Hepburn-looking). The fitted bodice paired with the full midi skirt creates a classic shape that never goes out of style. One of my favorite styling tricks is mixing unexpected colors, so instead of reaching for pearls or gold, I paired it with a turquoise beaded necklace (similar). The contrast makes both colors pop and gives the outfit a fresh, modern feel.

Since it’s still blazing hot outside, I finished the look with simple black (kitten-heel) flip-flops, oversized sunglasses, and a quilted crossbody bag. Comfortable, polished, and perfect for everything from lunch with friends to church to date night.

As the weather cools, this dress will transition beautifully with a cropped cardigan, a lightweight blazer, or even tall boots.

Look Two: A Modern Take on the Trend

If solid color isn’t your style, prints are another beautiful way to wear this trend.

This strapless two-piece (top and skirt) combines warm berry and rust tones in an abstract zebra-inspired print that feels both playful and elevated. I love how the movement of the skirt keeps it relaxed while the structured bodice adds polish.

Because I was shopping indoors (where the air conditioning could rival winter), I draped a simple black sweater over my shoulders. It’s an easy styling trick that adds a little sophistication while giving you something to throw on when temperatures drop.

Again, I kept the accessories minimal and let the dress do the work.

Why This Color Trend Works at Any Age

One thing I appreciate about these richer reds is how flattering they are on so many skin tones. They’re softer than a bright fire-engine red but still make a statement. They also pair beautifully with black, cream, camel, chocolate brown, olive, denim, and even leopard print once fall arrives. For those of us over 50 (or over 60!), these colors add warmth and vibrancy without feeling trendy for the sake of being trendy. They have staying power, which means you’ll likely be wearing them long after this season ends.

Fashion trends come and go, but every now and then one arrives that feels wearable, elegant, and easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. Rich berry and tangy red tones are exactly that. They’re bold without being loud, timeless without feeling predictable, and they’re one of the easiest ways to freshen up your closet as we move from the dog days of summer into fall. Now if only the weather would get the memo.

 

Update on my mom. She was moved to a rehab hospital and is a superwoman! She is still not allowed to bend her knees for another two weeks, but she has mastered the “Frankenstein” walk. She is being released tomorrow and will have home care for a bit.

I was in Ojai this past weekend celebrating my granddaughter’s fifth birthday. My granddaughter wanted a fairy, cowboy, unicorn, princess party (haha), and boy did she get it. Cinderella showed up, and the little girls were mesmerized, and honestly, I was too! She came from LA and was probably a Disney Cinderella. She never broke character (which was a little weird!). I’m in LA now, helped host an event at Veronica Beard yesterday with proceeds going to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, and will head home tomorrow. I wore this tank and this blazer.
