BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
(Me, Two Years Ago in my wig…and still have the same sentiment today)
Unless you live under a rock, you know it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and you probably figured I would mention it. If you are new to The Middle Page, I was diagnosed two years ago, with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (lucky me!). What is TNBC? Read this short explanation to better understand.
I am not a rah rah pink person to begin with, but pink is everywhere this month! I’m not sure I like it to tell you the truth. I am a very positive person, and I really don’t think about cancer very much. I am cancer free (thank God), and just trying to live my life. Do I ever think about it? Every morning when I get up, I thank God that I am healthy, healed and victorious, so it crosses my mind then, but that’s usually it. Sometimes I think there must be something wrong with me, because I don’t think about it! I know plenty of survivors that are petrified that it will come back, but I am choosing to believe that it will never raise its ugly head again. So, when October rolls around and pink is in my face for thirty one days, it sort of makes it real again. I am so grateful for the awareness and money being raised, but I would love for that to happen ALL year long.
So with all of that said…please get a mammogram, and be aware of how your breast feel. Tell your daughters, nieces, grand daughters, best friend, whomever, to get a mammogram and pay attention to their breasts. I’ve said it many times, but the kind of cancer I had doesn’t discriminate in age. It actually seems to affect younger women in their 20’s and 30’s. I know what it’s like to go through this horrible fight, and I really don’t want anyone else to experience it, but unfortunately it will happen. Please do me a favor and do the above mentioned!!!!!
