WHY A BLAZER IS THE ULTIMATE FALL WARDROBE ESSENTIAL
Why a Blazer Is the Ultimate Fall Wardrobe Essential
When the temperatures and leaves begin to change, one piece always rises to the top of my fall wardrobe: the blazer. It’s that magical layer that instantly pulls an outfit together — whether you’re headed to brunch, a board meeting, or running errands and want to look a little more polished than usual, a blazer is your friend.
For women in midlife and beyond, a blazer is one of the smartest investments you can make. It offers structure without stiffness, versatility, and timelessness with just enough edge to keep you feeling chic.
Why Blazers Belong in Your Fall Wardrobe
-
Effortless Polish
Throw a blazer over a t-shirt and jeans, and suddenly you’re not just casual—you’re put together, and you’ve accomplished the rule of three. It has the same effect over dresses or skirts. -
Transitional Ease
Early fall weather is unpredictable, especially here in the South. A blazer is the perfect middle layer, not as heavy as a coat, but warmer than a cardigan. -
Versatility
Wear it open with denim and loafers for the day, button it up over tailored pants for dinner, or layer it under a coat when winter comes. Few pieces work harder in your closet. -
Age-Defying Style
A great blazer walks that fine line between classic and modern. It’s not “too young” and it’s never dowdy. It’s one of those rare staples that elevates everyone, regardless of age.
Spotlight on the Quince Scuba Convertible Blazer
This season, I’ve fallen for the Quince Scuba Convertible Blazer in Deep Navy. It’s sleek, structured, and I feel like a dead ringer for the cult-favorite Veronica Beard blazer, but at a fraction of the price. The price point is certainly better! It comes in at around $100, versus the Veronica Beard at over $600. The fabric is a stretch scuba knit and wrinkle-resistant. It features the same convertible element, allowing you to change the look with a dickey zippered insert. Don’t get me wrong, I love Veronica Beard, but I think their blazers have become more expensive. For a solid color, this Quince blazer is a great alternative.
Styling Ideas for Fall Blazers
-
Weekend Chic: Navy blazer + striped tee + straight-leg jeans + loafers.
-
Office-Ready: Blazer over a silk blouse + wide-leg trousers + block heels.
-
Evening Edge: Blazer over a slip dress + ankle boots.
-
Travel Layer: Blazer with matching pants, white tee, and sneakers — polished comfort on the go.
Final Thoughts
A blazer is one of those fall pieces that earns its keep in your closet, season after season. Whether you invest in a designer piece, like Veronica Beard, or opt for an affordable yet chic option, like Quince, you’ll find yourself reaching for it again and again. When it comes to fall dressing, the blazer is less of a trend and more of a timeless uniform.
I just got home last night from a long weekend in NYC. I met my Nashville friends and had one of the most fun weekends! Yesterday, we took a tour of the new J.P. Morgan building and its art collection. I was invited by one of the Nashville girls and her husband. We had the tour and a special roundtable to discuss the current climate in the U.S., and then were treated to a cocktail party and dinner at Café Baloud. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience (I think) to get a private tour of the art collection.

I am off again this morning to Austin to an event for Lionel Richie’s new memoir. I am taking my buddy, Heather, and we will have lunch in Austin, do a little running around, and then attend a cocktail party, the main event with Lionel, and then a VIP meet and greet with him. We drive back tomorrow, and I will re-pack for a trip to Birmingham this weekend to attend the Alabama/Vandy game with my kids and grandkids. I have never done this many back-to-back trips in my life. And, when we get back on Sunday, I have four days before we leave again. Thankfully, that will be the last one (I know of) for a while! I’m super tired at the moment, but you know that saying, “You can sleep when you are dead!”.
SHIRT // BLAZER // JEANS (different wash) // SHOES (sold out, but these are the same with a strap) // BAG
I’m adding a few more blazers that I love below.
Have a great day! Be well and Stay safe! xx
